Francisco Manuel Camarinhas Serdoura

Assistant Professor, in the Department of Architecture, Urbanism and Design, at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Lisbon, where teaches in undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
He graduated in Architecture from the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Lisbon in 1986. In January 1988, he joined the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC), in the Grupo de Urbanismo e Planeamento Municipal (GURPAM), where scientific research began to be his main activity, in an institution of great national and international prestige, having collaborated in several works in the area of municipal planning. In 1990, he was awarded a Master's degree, from the Junta Nacional de Investigação Científica e Tecnológica (JNICT), to attend the Master's Degree in Planeamento Regional e Urbano (MPRU), Technical University of Lisbon (UTL). During that period he also obtained an ERASMUS scholarship to attend a semester of the Master's program at the Department of Civic Design at the University of Liverpool in the United Kingdom.
In 2006, defended at IST-UTL the PhD thesis 'Espaço Público, Vida Pública. O Caso do Parque das Nações'. The thesis presents a methodology of analysis and evaluation of the use of the public space by the people taking into account the physical, functional, and environmental characteristics present in the space and the human activities developed in it. The methodology was illustrated with the case of the public space of the Parque das Nações, in Lisbon.
In July 2006, he joined the group of Urbanism at the Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Design (CIAUD).
