José Nuno Beirão

José Nuno Beirão, é licenciado em arquitectura pela FAUTL em 1989, data desde a qual pratica a profissão de arquitecto tendo sido membro fundador da bquadrado arquitectos lda. (www.bquadrado.com). Concluiu a sua tese de mestrado no ISCTE em 2005. A tese intitula-se: «Gramáticas Urbanas: por uma metodologia de desenho urbano flexível» e trata de um estudo analítico de métodos de projecto baseados em algoritmos com vista à obtenção de planos urbanos dotados de maior flexibilidade de resposta e adaptação às variações de premissas.
Na sua tese de doutoramento, intitulada «CItyMaker: Designing Grammars for Urban Design» concluída em 2012 na TU Delft, na Holanda, desenvolve mais o conceito propondo um conjunto de algoritmos denominados ‘urban induction patterns’ descritos com recurso ao formalismo das gramáticas da forma (Stiny e Gips, 1972). Tratam-se tecnicamente de gramáticas genéricas aplicáveis no desenvolvimento de modelos urbanos paramétricos. A tese apresenta o conceito de City Information Modeling (CIM) onde se conjuga o desenvolvimento de modelos paramétricos e informação georeferenciada associada como base para projecto urbano suportado analiticamente. Actualmente encontra-se em dedicação exclusiva à FAULisboa onde desenvolve investigação relacionada com as aplicações de CIM em projecto e planeamento urbano.
Os seus interesses fundamentais são: projecto urbano paramétrico suportado em dados; projecto de suporte algorítmico; projecto de sistemas; gramáticas da forma; habitação com enfoque especial no projecto de sistemas personalizáveis. Os meios computacionais e a fabricação digital são as ferramentas que permitem o desenvolvimento de trabalho avançado nessas áreas de interesse.
